My name is Sophia, and welcome to my website. I understand that it can sometimes be difficult to decide whether or not you would like counselling, and then how confusing it can be to choose a counsellor or psychotherapist to suit you. I hope that you’ll find this site useful in helping you make that decision. Its aim is to give you a sense of who I am and what I do, as well as what counselling and psychotherapy is (see my Counselling page for more details). Counselling and Psychotherapy
Counselling and psychotherapy is about looking at ourselves and what’s going on in our lives, both past and present, which can sometimes feel confusing and difficult to cope with. Counselling and psychotherapy can help us to make sense of things so that going forward, we feel happier and more content.
Sometimes just getting things off your chest can be enough, but sometimes we need more than that. The difference between doing this with friends, and doing it with a counsellor/psychotherapist, is that this person is trained to listen to how you see things in your world, whereas friends may offer you advice based on what they think they would do in your situation. This might not be right for you as we are all unique in our ways of thinking, and people will react differently to the same situation. Counselling and psychotherapy don’t judge you or give you advice, but rather they offer you other ways of thinking about things which help you to decide the best way to navigate through your problems. They help you to see options where you couldn’t see any before.
People come to counselling/psychotherapy for lots of different problems. It may be difficulties with relationships you have with the people in your life. Perhaps you’ve experienced trauma or abuse, or self-harm, or suicidal thoughts. You may feel anxious or depressed. There are lots of issues which can affect our everyday happiness and overall satisfaction with life, and I can help you to deal with them:
